
Keeping Babies Warm Without the Blinding Light
When we’re designing infrared heaters for bathrooms—especially for nurseries—the biggest headache isn’t actually the heat. It’s the light. Most standard infrared lamps blast out this piercing white light. It’s harsh. For an adult, it’s annoying; for a baby with sensitive eyes, it’s just too much. We can’t have that.
Fixing the Glow
To keep those little eyes safe, we basically “filter” the light. Instead of using a standard clear glass tube, we use special coatings or a specific type of quartz. This shifts the energy away from the blinding stuff and moves it toward the long-wave infrared spectrum. The result? You get a soft, dim glow instead of a spotlight. You still get all the warmth on the skin, but none of the glare.
Fighting the Steam
Bathrooms are brutal on electronics. Steam gets everywhere. If moisture sneaks into the lamp’s connection points, the electrodes oxidize and the whole thing burns out way too fast. To stop that, we seal everything up with high-temp gaskets. We also use gold or nickel-plated contacts because they don’t corrode when things get humid. It’s the only way to make them actually last.
The Trade-off
Here’s the thing: when you kill the visible light, you lose a bit of that “instant blast” of heat you get from cheaper lamps. It takes a few seconds longer to hit that perfect temperature. But it’s worth it. To make up for that slight delay, we spent a lot of time tweaking the shape of the reflectors. We focus the energy right where it needs to go. That way, the room feels cozy without us having to crank up the power to a dangerous level. One last tip: please, wire these into a dedicated circuit with a GFCI breaker. Water and heating elements are a scary mix if your grounding isn’t perfect. Don’t skip this part.
